One of our talented apprentices has won a prestigious regional award in the North East.
Ben Lumsden, a Dual Skilled Apprentice who is based at our Throckley Factory on the outskirts of Newcastle Upon Tyne, was a finalist for the National Apprenticeship Awards 2019 for the North East. And on September 16, Ben was announced as the winner of the Royal Navy Award for Advanced Apprentice of the Year.
Ben, who joined our apprenticeship programme in 2015, commented:
“I am delighted to win this prestigious award. It was a big surprise as I knew it would be a tough decision for the judges. To win is an honour and a privilege. Apprenticeships offer huge opportunities for people who want to learn and gain hands on experience at the same time. The experience I have gained at Ibstock Brick has opened up many new pathways for me by helping me to expand my qualifications so I can progress my career to the highest level.”
In 2017, Ben was awarded our Apprentice of the Year Award. He has also represented the company in Parliament with the British Ceramics Confederation, discussing the importance of the Ceramic industry in the UK and how apprenticeships are vital for developing key skills with MPs.
He will now go forward to the National Apprenticeship Awards 2019 which will be held in London on November 27th.
Paula Wardle, Group Learning and Development at Ibstock plc, comments:
“We are extremely proud of Ben’s achievements. He has an exceptionally positive attitude towards learning and pushes himself extremely hard. Ben has always shown willing in putting himself forward for training, work and other company activities. As a result, I believe he has the attitude and confidence to develop his future career within the company.”
