Situated in the heart of the town centre, the building meets conflicting functional demands for security and public accessibility. It was important to define the nature of the building, whilst creating a character contextual with that of neighbouring properties.
The use of brickwork was right in context, but it was felt it was not sufficiently contrasting from the adjacent houses. Ibstock therefore suggested a solution based on Linear Birtley Olde English, an authentic waterstruck red blend brick with traditional distressed finish. The linear brick, used with matching lime mortar, matched the surroundings, but gave the building a very different feel, in keeping with its use and highlighting its stature as an important community building.
