To provide a new terminus complex to meet the requirements of transport hub, popular tourist attraction and modern thriving business enterprise, whilst embracing the Victorian romanticism and largely brick vernacular of the historic 19th century resort.
Bricks were chosen to deliver a 19th century aesthetic that was both affordable and sustainable. The hue of low courses of Staffordshire Slate Blue Smooth brickwork mirrors the traditional roofing slates, while the incorporation of plinth elements below projecting columnar brickwork in Chester Red Blend adds weight and grounds the building whilst adding interest, depth and animation to the façade. Bullnose bricks in Chester Red Blend support single course semi-circular brick arches to provide a robust yet charming surround to the recessed timber windows. Buff cast stone sills and imposts provide visual highlights, further enhanced by the buff coloured mortar used throughout.
