To find an effective way of thermally and acoustically upgrading Scotland’s poorly performing existing housing stock. The building on Plot 9, replicates one of the worst examples, the ‘4-in-a-block’ apartment format.
Different solutions were used to the different elevations, with Ibstock/Rockwool’s Brickshield® system chosen to upgrade the existing uninsulated, lined and rendered external walls of flats G1 and F1. The system’s aesthetic and long-term performance benefits, coupled with its non-invasive installation process and flexibility to suit different housing designs, make it ideal for this application. The performance of the different solutions is being monitored over an extended period by Edinburgh Napier University.
