To sympathetically convert and extend an existing brick and flint farmhouse in a mature and historic landscape 5 miles from Stonehenge, to provide the facilities for a modern Youth Hostel complex and visitor centre.
It was important that the extension both matched and complemented the existing building – a former farmhouse associated with a rare breeds farm on the outskirts of the village of Cholderton. The need to match the style, colour and texture of the existing 18th Century brickwork, led to the selection of Ibstock’s Berkshire Orange bricks and the use of preformed brick arches in order to meet the high quality of installation and construction demanded. TileBricks in the same Berkshire Orange were hand-made by Ibstock to match the original tile hung gables, ensuring that the finished building remains perfectly in sympathy with the surrounding historic architecture.
