To upgrade the thermal performance of three 13-storey residential blocks as part of a major regeneration scheme in Chester’s Blacon District. The project was also required to upgrade the visual appearance of the old no-fines concrete structures, with minimal disruption to tenants.
A high performance external wall insulation solution that involved Brickshield® to the lower two storeys, and plain rendered finish above. Combining high durability Rockwool® insulation with an outer cladding of natural clay brick slips, the Brickshield® system provides a durable grounding and improved aesthetic to match surrounding residential architecture. As well as increasing external wall U-values from 2.4 to 0.35 W/m2K, Brickshield® helped to give the old buildings a new lease of life, reducing energy bills for residents, who were able to remain in situ throughout the renovation. Full design and technical support from Ibstock, including toolbox talks, ensured the system could be installed quickly and efficiently.
